Meals

Our meals for the homeless provide nutrition to people who are often malnourished. These meals help us to build stronger relationships with the homeless. Ruby always reminds the homeless that she loves them.

How it Started

Ruby began feeding the homeless in the summer of 2018. Her husband had recently died, and she felt the need to do something. She saw the homeless hanging out in Pine Ridge and decided to make a big pot of hamburger soup. She didn’t have plans to do this on a full-time basis, but it went well, and there were many people who were hungry, so she did it again and again. Eventually, she was feeding 60 meals twice a week out of her social security money. She named her feeds “Goldie Mae’s Meals on Wheels” after her Chevy Blazer “Goldie Mae”, which carried the meals.

Outside churches started to hear about what Ruby was doing and began sending her food. Eventually Ruby and Abram partnered together on these meals and now Iglutheca has taken responsibility for paying for these meals. The meals are generally home-cooked. She feeds soups, goulashes, casseroles, sandwiches, etc.

How it’s Going Now

We are doing three meals per week for the homeless. The number of homeless varies depending on the time of the month and the weather, but on average Ruby feels about 30 people.

We are looking for sponsors for Meals on Wheels!

We currently feed three times a week. That makes twelve meals in a typical month. We are looking for 12 sponsors for these 12 meals. Our budget for these meals is $45 per meal.
